Vishwakarma Yojana

The Vishwakarma Yojana, also known as the PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana, is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India with the vision of empowering traditional artisans and craftspeople. These are individuals who have been preserving and promoting age-old skills through their work, often passed down through generations. This scheme, introduced in 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to uplift this segment of society by providing financial assistance, skill training, modern tools, and market support.

India has a rich heritage of craftsmanship and traditional artistry. Be it blacksmiths, carpenters, goldsmiths, sculptors, weavers, potters, cobblers, or masons these professionals form the backbone of India’s rural and semi-urban economy. However, with modernization and a shift toward machine-based production, many of these skilled workers have been left behind. The Vishwakarma Yojana seeks to bridge this gap and ensure that these artisans not only survive but thrive in the modern economic landscape
